Gremlins, Gremlins Everywhere!!!
October 24, 2009
I guess this is the time of year we all expect to see ghouls and hear things that go bump in the night. But a senior session cancellation put me right in the middle of GREMLINS! There were two…one yellow and one black! They haunted me as a teen and now they are back and haunting me once again. Anyone close to my age (I’m not disclosing) would also have these memories; some may be good while others…. Just how did this happen? Read on for the whole story!
I received a call needing the services of a professional photographer STAT! This worked perfectly into my schedule as my Sunday session canceled the previous day. So armed with my camera, lenses and lighting Lou and I headed out to my old stomping grounds and childhood neighborhood of Garfield Heights. We met up with Gary and his wife Debbie, who had taken a wedding photo years ago and wanted to recreate the photo. The urgency was due to one of the classic cars being purchased and was waiting to go to its new owner. Okay, now take a guess what these 2 classic cars were? Come on…I even gave you a hint in the opening paragraph. Yes! You guessed it…GREMLINS!!!
Now the last time I saw a Gremlin was when I had to climb in through ones’ driver side door. (I was a passenger!) My dad had a Matador that was probably one of the ugliest cars I have ever seen! So needless to say, a flood of memories attacked me just like those mean little movie Gremlins. Agh…would we make it out alive?????
Just teasing! We had a great time! After several shots in the yard with the cars, we went into Debbie’s parents home to shoot a mural that her father painted in their basement on a wall. Apparently, this was an ongoing projected that had various additions made over the years. Since his recent passing, the family was in the process of putting the home up for sale and wanted to have lasting image of his work.
As you can see from some of the photos below, the mural is amazing! I was shocked how even parts of the mural made their own beautiful art work. Thank you Gary and Debbie for giving me such a unique photographic opportunity! Enjoy a sampling of the photos below.

Check out the original plate!

I told you so!!!

Check out the shine on her!

Michael’s Senior Session
October 20, 2009
A few Sundays ago, I shot Michael’s senior session at Pacific Junction and the neighboring park in Olmsted Falls. The day was perfect, especially with the weather we’ve been having lately! Of course, the local fall festival was held the same time as our session; so we got to shoot to music of the 70’s and 80’s…how fun! At least for us from the “older” generation!
Between dancing to Abba and singing a few other disco era tunes, we got some great shots! In fact, the photos turned out so well, I had a difficult time getting the number to a workable load. Luckily, Michael’s mom was able to come over and do a run through of her favs. Afterwards, I had around 50 shots to work with and editing was amazingly quick and easy! Micheal was a wonderful subject and as you can tell from the photos, he looked very comfortable in front of the camera.
Here are a few of my favs…hope you like them, too! Thanks guys for a great session!

Mr. GQ himself!

This is one of my favs...

Another fav of mine!

I like the wall as a background.

Wow! I can’t believe it has been almost a month since I posted on my blog! My mom has recently been diagnosed with cancer and we are awaiting her surgery. So in the meantime, I have been trying to stay up to date on my sessions and processing.
We appreciate everyone’s positive thoughts, good wishes and most especially, prayers. I’ll try to keep everyone updated on Mom’s prognosis.
Thanks again!!!

Grandma’s Boy
August 28, 2009
Well, I have been home for less than a week but I have managed to get through one set of photos from my last babysitting trip to NC with Peyton. Jackie and Jason headed back to another school year, only this time as parents and not just teachers! I spent that first week playing G-ma and bonding with Peyton, who is now 2 months old!
ed a few below but I am adding more every chance I get to the newborn gallery on my website www.pellphotography.com. I hope you get a minute to browse through them. You will be able to see the difference from the photos when he was only 5 days old (1-8) to now. I’m playing with a lot of actions so you may see several different photos of the same shot.Only 7 more days until we head back down for his Christening. Of course, I can’t wait! I finally GOT the G-ma thing that all of my friends have been telling me about!
Oh, and check out the size of their garden spider!
Scott Family Session
August 27, 2009
Yesterday’s session took me to Brandywine Falls in Summit County. The falls are located in the National Park and it was the first time I had ever been there. I was amazed by how such little water could make such a full waterfall. What amazed me even more was seeing the photos!
I had to get a few of my favorites posted so since it’s already after 11pm, there’s only 4 shots online. Actually, I was hoping to get to more,
but time ran out on me tonight and my eyes are starting to go buggy. So much about me, let me tell you about the session.
It was a few weeks ago that I met Michelle on a friend of mine’s boat. She was up with two of her other friends for a ladies weekend. I was very excited when she contacted me about doing a family session. Figuring if the rest of her family was half as fun, it would be a great time. Well, I was right!
Everyone was very relaxed and clowning around which made for great shots. Because of this, I don’t have much editing to do; actually it’s mostly enhancing and tweaking a little here and there. Take a look at the photos below…I’m sure you’ll agree that this is a gorgeous family!
Thanks guys for a fun evening and affording me the opportunity to capture “playtime”!
A Day in the Park
August 6, 2009
This past Sunday, Lou and I ventured down to Hinkley Lake to shoot Derek & Linda’s family session. The weather was beautiful as was evidence by the amount of people still swimming and picnicking during the early evening hours. Except for a few frustrating moments most people stayed out of the background and we got some pretty good photos!
We started on a dock on the northern side of the lake and worked our way around finishing in the weeds overlooking the water. The light was reflecting off of the water and creating soft glows, which really add to several of the photos. At one point, we even ended up on the rocks under the bridge. We’ll see how those look when I grunge them out!
I’m posting several of my favorites although there are many more great photos! Thank you guys for a great session and a fun evening at the lake. Hope you enjoy the photos!!!
PtYC Golf Outing
July 31, 2009
Last Saturday was the 4th annual Picnic Table Open sponsored by PtYC. This event was started back when I was Commodore of Point Yatch Club and was the reason I learned (?) to golf! Well, since this has been a rather busy year for me, I haven’t even looked at my clubs. Therefore, I decided to act as the Club photographer and hide behind the camera rather than be in front of it!
Since the goal of this outing is to have fun and not take the game very seriously, you know I couldn’t take the standard shots on the green! Below are a few examples of what the foursomes came up with for “poses”. As you can see, they are anything but traditional!!! Unfortunately, I missed the shot of the day when 2 ladies; one on foot and one in a cart lead chase to fly-away umbrella across the course. On second thought, maybe it was a good thing! I hope ever
yone enjoyed themselves as much as Lou and I did.
Thanks everyone for a great time and hamming it up in front of the camera…we all got/had some great shots!
Here’s Peyton!
July 6, 2009
We just got home this morning at 7:00 from our marathon trip to Fayetteville, NC. After short nap I started working on several of my favorite photos of our family’s newest addition. Needless to say, PaPa and I are in love! Peyton is such a good baby! He’ll nurse then sleep for four hours at a time and he only gets fussy occasionally. We were only there for 3 days and it was amazing to see the little changes. He is staying awake longer and became more attentive to the sites and sounds around him, but the dogs’ barking doesn’t startle him or wake him! Peyton had a weigh in at the peds. office this morning and gained 8 ozs in four days! (I guess half an ounce is average.) Well, I need to stop bragging and let you enjoy my grandson! You’ll have to let me know who you think he looks like! I can tell you, he has Jackie’s nose which means he has my nose, too! Plus Jackie’s ears and Jason’s blue eyes!
- Mom and Peyton
- He loves his Mom!!
- Already a victim of PaPa’s sense of humor!
- My favorite!!!
- He reminds me of my Dad in this one…the “look” with the cheeks!
- Ten toes on feet just like his Dad’s!
